A Taste of Fall

Over fall break, my family and I took a trip to the pumpkin patch and apple orchard.  The weather was gorgeous, and the ride up there was so colorful as all the trees were starting to change colors.  We ate apple donuts and drank apple cider as we wandered through the green and orange rows of pumpkins trying to find the best one.  My little brother decided he wanted a gourd instead of a pumpkin.  I think he'll change his mind once he tries to carve it for Halloween.  Now I'm back at school missing the fall mountain weather and the taste of freshly picked apples.

Yearbooks

I’m officially on fall break, and it’s so nice to not have to worry about homework for a little while.  I need a stress free break.  Before I left school, I found some old yearbooks ranging from the late 1800s to 2003.  It was so fun to see how the times have changed.  It was hard to believe those people in the black and white pictures and the names written under the titles World War I and World War II were all my age. These pictures from Life magazine remind me of the old pictures in the yearbooks.  I'm kind of obsessed with the past.  It's a bit nerdy, but maybe that's why I can't seem to stop watching Mad Men.

An Art

 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

As I settle into actually living on my own and cooking for myself (instead of walking to a dining hall every time I get hungry...yuck), I'm starting to compile recipes that I like and foods that are fun and easy to make.  Cooking has definitely opened up a whole new world! Especially in food photography.  Making food look both pretty and delicious is definitely an art.

Color Inspiration: Orange

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Much to my dismay, the cold weather is starting to sink in, and fall is on its way.  Instead of dreading the cold weather, I'm trying to look forward to all the fun things fall brings: apple picking, watching the leaves change color, hiking, my birthday, football games, and much much more.  I got the idea of a color inspiration from Hey Look and decided since fall is such a colorful season, orange was the perfect place to start.  Have a happy weekend!

Organic

I love these illustrations by Lotta Olsson. They're so organic and complex.  I can't stop looking at them because every time I do I find something new to look at.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Summer Haze

These are some pictures I took with my Diana F+ at the beginning of the summer.  They are a little overexposed again.  Oh well.  I still think they turned out pretty well.  I'll hopefully be getting my first roll developed from my Minolta soon.  I can't wait to see what the pictures look like!

Sailing Away

1, 2, 3
I'll be leaving tomorrow for another year at school! I'm sad to be leaving my family, but I am so excited to start another year full of new experiences...now if I could just finish packing...

Sailing the Seas

This was my boyfriend's idea: take a split shot using 2 trees as the dividing line. I think it turned out really well. Could be one of my new favorites!

Here are some of my shots I took with my Diana F+ when I was in Annapolis over spring break (yes, I know that was a really long time ago!).  They came out a little over exposed. I'm slowly learning...

Dip Your Brush

“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures."
-Henry Ward Beecher

I love these paintings by Jackson Pollock.  They've been my inspiration for a while.  I even made a splatter painting using blues, greens, and yellows.  Mine didn't turn out as good a Pollock's, but I just loved the color palette so much I had to try it!

Day at the Barn

Since I don't remember a time when my family didn't own at least 1 horse, I've spent most of my childhood at the barn.  After entering high school, the time I spent at the barn decreased as my homework load increased, but every now and then I love spending an afternoon with the horses, dogs, cats, and especially my mom.  This particular sunny afternoon, my little sister got the privilege of joining us.  We had a lot of fun just messing around with the horses.

DIY: Inspiration Board

I've been in a pretty crafty mood lately, and I wanted to share one of my recent projects.  I call it an Inspiration Board! I use it as a place to store some of my favorite foods, fashion advice, and decor that I've found in magazines. It's also a great decoration for my oh-so-plain room. Here's how you make one:

Supplies:
*Cork board
*Tacks
*Magazine clippings

If you want to be SUPER crafty add some embellishments like flowers, buttons, or beads.  You could even paint the frame of the board (I painted mine blue).

Gather some pictures and quotes that you want to put on the board.

Arrange the pictures any way you want.  Secure with tacks.  Add embellishments (I added buttons and some flowers).

And you're done! Yay! That was easy.

Happy crafting!
